Market by Jean-Georges is hosting a culinary event inspired by the humble sakura.
It’s hard to believe it’s almost the end of April and it’s only now that the cherry blossoms are starting to show—better late than never, we suppose. But if you’re still not seeing enough pink out there to satisfy your sakura cravings, Shangri-La Hotel’s Market by Jean-Georges is here to help with a limited-time cherry-blossom-inspired tasting menu.Created by executive chef Ken Nakano, the menu pays tribute to his Japanese heritage and combines quintessential Japanese flavours like dashi (a cooking stock and staple of Japanese cuisine) with local, sustainable ingredients. Recipes like foie gras donburi and lobster chawan mushi (savoury egg custard) with gold caviar manage are rich enough to combat the rainy spring blues, but elegant and delicate as a cherry blossom. The Japanese theme continues via the matcha and white chocolate “Kit Kat” with Lillooet honey-lemon ice cream and Mochi, and sake-infused cocktails (courtesy of sakemaker Masa Shiroki of Artisan SakeMaker).
When: Now through April 30, 2017Where: Market by Jean-Georges, 1115 Alberni St.Tickets: $125 per person
