The storied Parisian tea-and-macaron shop is set to come to downtown Vancouver mid-2016.
Of course we’re excited about trying the macarons when Ladurée Vancouver opens early this summer—after all, it was the bakery that started the macaron craze in the first place, inventing the treat back in 1930—but we’re also dying to experience the Parisian-influenced design of the boutique. It’ll be a stark contrast to the West Coast modern and industrial-chic-craftsman looks that grace most new rooms these days, but if tea time isn’t an opportunity to embrace a little Old World opulence, what is?
The facade will be styled after the historic Rue Royale shop in Paris, so it won’t be hard to spot the French connection. Inside, you’ll find marble-topped, beige and gold countertops (likely staggering beneath towers of pastries), and a mural of swirling clouds and angels painted on the ceiling above—not exactly something you see in Vancity every day.
Black chairs and floral benches will be gathered around Carrara-marble-topped wooden tables, while rose and mint green furniture adds some feminine colour. Metallic touches and decorative black marble bring a hit of subtle elegance.
Though there are no official photos yet, take a peek at these shops from around the globe and take a minute to imagine trying an iconic treat in a sweet space. And if you can’t wait for the opening, we heard flights to France are a bargain right now—why not go and pick up a little something-something from the place where it all began?
