From glitzy and glam to minimalistic and modern, these Christmas trees are the perfect idea kickstarter.
Strings of lights are being pulled from the closet, children everywhere are writing page-long lists to Santa and red cups have been on the streets for what seems like forever. Yes, Christmas is right around the corner—and our regular decor is quickly being replaced with holiday accessories and an all-important centrepiece: the Christmas tree. From faux to fir, strung with lights and ornaments, there are a million ways to decorate your tree. So, prepare to be inspired: we’ve scoured the archives to find a collection of beautiful Christmas trees to inspire your festive holiday looks.

Interior designer Janie Hungerford uses gold ornaments as an accent piece on an otherwise neutral tree. Because the area rug in the living room is red, Hungerford didn’t want to overdo it by adding more red (or green); the combination of white and gold make for an eye-catching piece that screams “winter wonderland.”
Calgary blogger and interior decorator Neelam Gurm went outside the box and opted for a lighter and simpler birch tree, rather than the traditional fir or spruce. She follows the recurring theme of a natural, outdoorsy vibe and allows the colours of her gifts to take the spotlight. See more of this navy, white and gold holiday look.
Surrey homeowners Wayne McGill and Chad Farquharson (and their son, Grayson) celebrate the holidays with more than one Christmas tree. This first mixes traditional red and gold to add warmth to the room; reds pair exceptionally well with different shades of brown to create an earthy feel. With West Coast-inspired decorations, a two-tone Christmas tree not only creates a unique festive look, but allows for a vivid blue area rug to stand out in the home. White trees act as exceptional starting points for adding in multiple shades of a more vivid, electric colour (blues, reds, etc.). See more of this West Coast-inspired holiday home.
Designer Carrie McCarthy’s white-on-white Pender Island cabin plays host to one of the most unique trees we’ve ever seen: a coastal driftwood Christmas tree stands tall in the corner, creating a balance between richness and simplicity.
Nature and simplicity are the focal points in Ami McKay‘s mid-century Christmas cottage, where homemade pompoms adorn a pared-down Christmas tree. Even with minimal decorations, the tree acts as a centrepiece in the room thanks to natural lighting from the panelled windows.
Designer Karin Bohn chooses to forego the typical red and gold evergreen; this unconventional approach uses black as the backdrop for white, gold and silver ornaments, focusing on metallics to add an element of glamour and luxe. See more of this black and gold holiday look.
