How to deck the halls like a designer.
Tired of hanging the same old wreath on your front door? Take a cue from these six designers, each of whom has put a unique spin on this traditional piece of holiday decor. Whether you prefer a classically festive look or something more outside the box, you’ll find inspiration here.
Photographer Tracey Ayton went heavy on the greenery when decorating her Boundary Bay home. In addition to cedar boughs and garlands, there are wreaths everywhere. She’s hung them both inside and outside; on doors, walls and windows. Not only that, but every single wreath is unique since Ayton foraged much of the greenery herself. We especially love the oversized olive branch wreath that hangs above the living room sofa—and the dog seems to like it, too. See more of this green Christmas style.
Designer Kendall Ansel added a ton of whimsey to this Vancouver residence, which she decorated for the 2018 Kids Help Phone Homes for the Holidays tour. The wreath that hangs above the fireplace—made with succulents and boughs in various shades of green—perfectly complements the flocked Christmas tree, woodland-creature ornaments and silver-and-pink colour scheme. Check out the rest of this pretty holiday look.
Some people decorate with big, leafy wreaths—but that’s not what you’ll find at this North Vancouver home. Designer Sophie Burke helped Sarah Duyker pull off a more minimal, modern and organic holiday look. The partially-decorated wreath that hangs above the bedside table is just one example of how this non-fussy style came to life. Tour this Scandi-cool home.
You don’t have to completely replace your everyday decor during the holiday season—and this home designed by Aly Velji proves it. He layered in a few festive elements throughout the space, including the wreath that hangs in front of a modern black and white painting, to bring just a touch of the North Pole to Calgary. Find out how to get this look at home.
No one said wreaths have to be lush and green. Designers Chad Falkenberg and Kelly Reynolds decorated this Vancouver home with one made of birch bark. They created the wavy shape by stringing wet strips of bark (this makes them malleable!) onto a copper hoop. It’s simple, sustainable and seasonal. See more of this home’s modern holiday decor.
Designer Ami McKay is responsible for the rest of this home, but it’s the team at Stoops—a company that creates and delivers seasonal planters—that we have to thank for this show-stopping outdoor style. The wreath! The greenery! The wood-and-glass candle lanterns! It’s just… *chef’s kiss*. Peek inside this West Vancouver home.
