These incredible Irish-inspired recipesfisherman's pie, whiskey cocktails and festive chocolate tarts!will have you doing a St. Paddy's Day jig.
Happy St. Patrick’s Day! If you’re in the mood to celebrate with delicious food, look no further. These recipes from the WL Recipe Finder include shepherd’s pie, whiskey-filled cocktails and chocolate tarts (complete with golden truffles!). Whether you’re throwing an epic themed party or just feel like cooking up an Irish feast, we’ve got you covered.
Shepherd’s pie is a traditional Irish dish, but chef Lucas Harrison of Fresh Ideas Start Here decided to give this recipe a seaside twist. Packed with cod, sockeye salmon and prawn, this creamy pie is filled with flavour: a sprinkling of lemon, parsley and garlic adds a rich, tangy touch, and of course, no shepherd’s pie would be complete without fresh thyme and mashed potatoes.
This uniquely-named cocktail, courtesy of the Salted Vine‘s Dave Warren, has got some fascinating ingredients, but that’s what makes it so special. The golden beet shrub is made with golden beets, sugar and apple cider vinegar; combined with classic Jameson Irish whiskey, egg white and lemon juice, this drink is perfect for your St. Patrick’s Day party. Don’t forget to use pickled golden beets for garnish.
This tart by Betty Hung of Beaucoup Bakery isn’t your old-school chocolate tart. The classic ganache filling is infused with stout beer and sprinkled with matcha powder and gold dust, giving it a fun, festive spin. If you’re feeling extra fancy, be sure to top it off with golden truffles. As the saying goes, treat yourself!
These mini beef and guinness hand pies by Jenny Hui of the Lazy Gourmet are filled with caramelized onions and Worcestershire sauce, giving this recipe an extra kick. Even better, the traditional beef filling is mixed with Guinness, making these bite-sized treats both scrumptious and St. Paddy’s Day-appropriate.
Everybody loves croquettes, right? Chef Tyler Day of Railtown Cafe designed this dish after classic Irish pub food, but added a St. Paddy’s Day bonus: Guinness cheddar dipping sauce. (And in the interest of saving the eatery from further backlash, we’ve shared a photo of a more appropriately-poured brew.)
This cocktail from L’Abattoir‘s Katie Ingram contains a St. Patrick’s Day favourite (Irish coffee!) and blends it with the familiar, whisky-filled boulevardier. This recipe uses Jameson Crested whiskey, in honour of the original Jameson distillery on Bow Street in Dublin. To complete the ensemble, combine Amaro liqueur and Noilly Pratt Rouge, and garnish with a cinnamon stick.
Beer is a staple drink for St. Patrick’s Day, but this year why not change it up a bit? If you’re up for something a little different, this pecan-infused porter from Café Medina might be just for you. Marc Slingsby-Jones chose a variety of ingredients for this recipe, including butterscotch liqueur, crème de cacao and Four Winds oat porter. If you prefer, substitute the porter for Guinness for a drink that’s just as tasty.
The aptly-named “Lost Leprechaun” takes the classic hot toddy to new levels. To achieve the festive green colour, Hendricks’ Matt Houston combines familiar ingredients like Irish whiskey and honey and blends them with melon liqueur and lemon juice. The result is a fun drink that is tropical and refreshing.
