Our favourite recipes for a romantic night in.
While there are plenty of things to do on Valentine’s Day, there’s nothing wrong with spending an intimate night at home—and it’s always nice to put your culinary skills to good use. Whether you want to cook something simple or prepare a multi-course meal, have meat or go vegetarian, we’ve searched the WL Recipe Finder to help you plan the perfect date night at home.
Let your date know they’re the bees knees with this simple cocktail, which is a combination of gin, fresh lemon juice and a little bit of honey. Without having to fuss over an elaborate drink, you can focus on the meal ahead.
Not only are roasted beets a perfect way to warm up in the winter, the candied pecans offer a little sweetness for your sweetheart. This recipe is easy, and dressed (with a balsamic-and-mustard vinaigrette) to impress.
For the main course, show off your skills in the kitchen with this spatchcocked chicken, which can be either roasted or grilled. Pair it with the roasted beet and squash salad (above) or serve alongside your favourite grains.
This fun and casual Hawaiian dish is great for date night. Make it together (it’s entirely customizable!) and finish it off with the poke sauce of your choice: avocado mayo, classic shoyu, or spicy sauce.
If you or your date prefer to eat vegetarian, this fresh zucchini linguini recipe from Chef Brian Skinner is exactly what you need. Pasta is also the perfect choice if you’re hoping for a Lady and the Tramp moment (though we think you should save the kissing until after dinner is done).
This simple yet on-trend cake by powerhouse Julie Van Rosendaal is fresh and elegant—and also works if you plan to celebrate earlier in the day. Breakfast (ahem, dessert) in bed, anyone?
If you’re looking for a dessert that’s more simple, you can’t go wrong with classic fondue. Serve with marshmallows, pretzels, bananas, brownies or your date’s favourite treat.
