Baker Jackie Kai Ellis styles a brunch with plenty of Parisian flair.
Jackie Kai Ellis’s Beaucoup Bakery may make the city’s best croissant, but it also serves up some serious style. Inspired by her time studying the art of a flaky crust in Paris (and by her previous career as a graphic designer), the shop blends francophile chic with plenty of on-trend touches—think marble bistro tables, sleek subway tile and pops of persimmon-red floral print. As she guides food lovers to her favourite patisseries and chocolate shops as part of her latest venture, The Paris Tours, she shares her list of covet-worthy goods that make for a perfectly designed brunch.1. The Caves São João is the perfect bubbly for mimosas because it has enough nuttiness to hold up to the citrus. Keep it chilled in a classic Christofle silver champagne cooler ($990). atkinsons.ca2. In an ideal world, gatherings and celebrations are all toasted with crystal, because I absolutely love the musical tone it makes when glasses—like the Orrefors Dizzy Diamond flute ($66) or Baccarat Vega flutissimo ($200)—agree. atkinsons.ca3. I’m in love with pretty much everything Astier de Villatte makes, including this Adelaide cake stand ($415). In their Paris flagship, imagine rustic woods layered with paint from bygone eras and classic white-glazed ceramics in beautiful, sometimes cheeky designs. thecrossdesign.com4. A space with flowers inspires people to stop and enjoy the luxury of the present moment. The arrangements at Garden Party Flowers are among my favourite in the city. gardenpartyflowers.ca5. This coffee syrup ($16) from Old Faithful is perfect for topping pancakes, adding to steamed milk and even glazing some smoky bacon or bison sausage for a twist on a maple bacon side. oldfaithfulshop.com6. This Société-Orignal honey (from $28) from Litchfield Shop is probably some of the most flavourful and complex I’ve ever tasted, with the texture of heaven. litchfieldtheshop.com7. OnOurTable cutting boards ($109) are so beautiful, but humble enough to be well used and well loved. providehome.com8. This Rodolfo Dordoni cookware (from $85) has been stained a brass colour on the exterior. The wooden handles lift off and each piece becomes its own serving vessel—the best in form and function. litchfieldtheshop.com9. I found these wonderful Scents and Feel linen cloths and napkins ($23) at Peridot. I loved the combination of colours and the contrast between the slight sparkle of the silver and the raw natural fibres of the cream linen. peridot.caFollow Jackie on Twitter and Instagram
