This trend leans into maximalism, embracing both the old and the new.
It’s a “more is more” look that leans into maximalism and manifests in a kind of design oxymoron: modern retro or new nostalgia. But unlike granny’s living space, this “newstalgia” is modern and glam, bringing a fresh sensibility to floral and damask prints and soft furnishings. Perhaps there’s no better example than the Mah Jong modular sofa, which, after half a century, has been reissued by Roche Bobois in decadent fabrics by Jean Paul Gaultier, Missoni and Kenzō Takada. Whether in rattan, velvet or bright lacquer, this trend has that bit of boho bae that takes old-school grandeur to the next level.
