These inviting living rooms will brighten up gloomy days.
As we enjoy the last sips of summer, the days getting shorter and (unfortunately, sadly) our West coast weather will inevitably get greyer and damper.
So, we've compiled a list of some colourful and creative living rooms that might inspire you to liven up your living spaces for the greyer days ahead.
Designer Paul Lavoie brings a new era of maximalism to this Calgary home's living room. The orange herringbone-patterned rug mixes modern with tradition, while mint-coloured walls, magenta-pink ottomans and patterned chairs up the colour palette. This living room is bold, anything-but-boring, and surely brings colour to a gloomy day.
Prints and patternsespecially given the homeowner's love of Marimekkoare central in this Dawson Creek, B.C. home. Designer Gwyntie van Tuyl of Emerge Design adds pops of colour (like a lovely yellow throw blanket) to this living room's neutral-toned walls and furnishings.
Inside RNDSQR's Alkarim and Majida Devani's living room, the pair arranged their family's plant collection throughout the room, giving the space a natural indoor-outdoor feel. The greeneryand the room's large patio doorsmake this space bright and inviting, perfect for gloomier days ahead.
In this renovated 1970s Mackenzie Heights home, designed by Cedric Burgers, the living room's pale bamboo floor is contrasted by eye-catching seating. We love the chartreuse Togo sofa from Ligne Roset and the not one, but two Womb chairs from Knoll, in teal and in purple.
In this award-winning West Vancouver home, designer Rob Bailey installed Andy Warhol's 1970 silkscreen series, Flowers, on two walls in the open concept living and dining room. Adding vibrant artwork adds excitementand happiness in Bailey’s wordsdrawing one inward to this beautiful, modernist space.
Eye-catching and interest-piquing, Fox Design Studio's co-founder Ben Leavitt decorated his living room with treasures collected from his travels (including a wall adorned with masks amassed throughout his travels). Zebra-print seating and palm-leaf drapes (created from Tommy Bahama patio fabric) bring the outdoors in. This rule-bending living room is an example of how to make colour and many curiosity objects mesh together to create an eclectic and warm atmosphere.
