We're not jealous, you are!
Some things just go together: peanut butter and chocolate, Beyoncé and country music, green colour palettes and bathrooms. Okay, that last combo may not be quite as famous as the others, but it should be—and these designer looks from the WL archives prove it.
When it came time to demo, the owners of this Vancouver home decided to preserve the bathtub—and we’re so glad they did! It gave designer Ami McKay of Pure Design the perfect excuse to create a spa-like retreat, complete with floor-to-ceiling green tiles. “We tend to paint our ceilings white, but this creates a sense of intimacy,” she says. A lot of spec homes have a cookie-cutter, please-everyone-while-pleasing-no-one look, but that’s not the case here. Designer Suzanne Tetrault of Studio Felix injected a ton of personality and style into this Calgary infill.
In the powder room, that was achieved with Masureel wallpaper, a Mitzi light and a custom arched vanity mirror. “We knew this was going to be the showpiece of the main floor,” she says. “This is the bathroom that all guests will use, and they’re going to be in it for such a short time, so we wanted to make an impact.” Check out the rest of this whimsical, Brownstone-inspired home.
There are five bathrooms in this 2,583-square-foot home. In other words, designer Brianna Hughes had a ton of room to play with colour. But even so, she decided to use green in two of them. While the powder room is finished with forest-green plaster walls and “Hollywood” lights…
…the guest bath features green-striped tiles around both the shower and sink. “It’s wild, but every room balances each other out,” says the designer.” Step inside this decadent Calgary home.
The mirrors are meant to be the standout in this Measured Architecture-designed bathroom. While we can certainly appreciate them (and their ability to create the illusion of space), it’s the emerald green tiles that have captured our attention and hearts. Get more trade secrets from this awkwardly shaped bathroom.
If you want to only subtly embrace a green palette, consider a jungle motif wallpaper. The striking print in this Project 22-designed bathroom, for example, injects just the right amount of the colour. Not to mention, it perfectly complements the green-tiled shower. Interior designer Amanda Evans was challenged with bringing this decades-old home into the modern era—and at the same time, keeping its historic charm. In the bathroom, that meant pairing the original flooring with a rich, green marble vanity; the contemporary apron front keeps it from feeling too retro. Tour this Vancouver residence.
