We look back at past issues of Western Living and Condo to bring you dream bedroom after dream bedroom.
As we retreat indoors for the colder months, there’s nothing more restorative and relaxing than a beautiful bedroom space for curling up with a copy of Where’d You Go, Bernadette and a hot mug of comfort coco. From the simple to the ultra-luxe, here are 12 gorgeous bedrooms to inspire:
For this Vancouver home, designer Kelly Deck went with a cool palette of whites, greys and deep blues to brighten up the interiors. She decked out this dream bedroom with luxe pieces like a tufted bench and silky cushionsa Robert Abbey Bling chandelier overlooks all for added wow factor. See more pics from this home here.
Calgary designer Alykhan Velji paired rural-urban with a rustic Canadiana theme for this bedroom’s patriotic redesign. He installed a stunning feature wall and played up the cabin getaway vibe by designing the room around a cozy felt-upholstered bed and a custom-made bench covered in an iconic Hudson’s Bay blanket. Find out how to get the look here.
The bed and nightstands in this Bowen Island guest bedroom from architect Cedric Burgers are simple finds from Ikea, which is probably for the best as nothing could upstage this view.
There’s not much we can say about this bedroom that the windows can’t say for us. A Serpentine Plumb pendant light from Kozai Modern adds a striking element to a room geared to celebrate the view. The rest of this Naramata Bench home is just as serene.
The walls in the rest of this contemporary townhouse in the Arthur Erickson Choklit building are whitebut we love this bold black bedroom wall that’s anything but cold, decorated with just the right amount of eclectic furniture pieces and personal knickknacks. Homeowner and Redfish Kids fashion designer Lorraine Kitsos was a big fan of her townhouse’s soaring ceilings and industrial live/work vibe (and we are too).
The loft-like bedroom in Angela Robinson’s Point Grey guest cottage is a dreamy getaway almost completely papered with an abstract, ocean-blue patterntalk about thinking outside, and above the box. Lush white bedding nods to boutique hotel luxury, but embroidered pillows from Mint interiors personalize the space.
So fresh and so very clean, clean. A monochromatic palette brings shapes and textures to the fore in this Joanna Vagelatos-designed bedroom. The sculptural lamp, made from a salvaged anchor chain, contrasts against the rich fabrics and tufted velvet headboard. The ocean view isnt bad, either.
Not everyone has a restored historic wall at your disposal, but when you do, flaunt it! A Copeland Catalina cherry bed from Fullhouse Modern embraces the warm brick tones in this Sophie Burke-designed Crosstown loft in Vancouver. The Saarinen bedside table, topped with a glowing Flos lamp, provides a modern contrast to the heritage finishes of the space.
The oversized glass door in this Arthur Erickson Eppich House bedroom opens up onto the terrace, but the sweeping view brings the outside in, even when the door is closed. The medium-toned woods and olive tones picked up in the bedding textiles, artwork and a lone ceramic mug mimic the natural pond scene outside.
We love how this is undeniably beach, even without seashells. Subtle metallic accents are peppered throughout the seaside-inspired bedroom from Fox Design Studioa scallop-print pillow, a framed wall-mounted mirror, and studs that detail the custom headboard.
There's an intimate, masculine vibe in the master bedroom thanks to the textured tortoise studies on the wall, a rich blue grasscloth wallpaper treatment and a low tufted headboarda custom design by Fox Design Studio’s Ben Leavitt in a charcoal fabricbut the fresh, springy yellow-and-white bedding from West Elm adds a feminine balance. More photos from this eclectic and anything-but-cookie-cutter townhouse here.
Surprisingly, the rest of this Shaughnessy home from designer Adam Becker is bursting with pop art and colourful furniture. This sparsely decorated space shows you don’t a bunch of furniture or accessories to achieve bedroom zen. Beau Dick's Incubus Eagle Spirit sculpture overlooks a B&B Italia bed dressed in crisp Frette linens; across the room hangs an ethereal Karin Bubas painting. A reclaimed wood step leads to the lush green patio area right outside the bedroom.
